Featured Artist: Stanley Meltzoff

I love Stanley Meltzoff's oil paintings. They remind me of some of my favorite things: Fishing, Ocean Life, Old Sci-Fi Art, Steampunk, and Adventure. Click on "Read more" to read more :) Enjoy!

Manilart 2011

I wasn't dressed for the occasion. Maybe not avant-garde enough? Maybe my hair wasn't green enough? Or maybe I looked like a gawker (which I was)? Anyway, I felt a bit alien and the answers to my questions were more of dismissals than explanations. I love art, but the art world doesn't even have a crush on me, and isn't quite what i would wish it to be. Once we become clique-ish in our ways, whether we are a group of stamp collectors, or musicians, or Jolina Magdangal fans, we deprive people of that which we love and appreciate. Is it a selfish thing? Is it the desire to remain indie? Or the compulsion to abstain from reaching out to the majority (That includes me)? Anyway, I think i can classify the galleries thusly:

1. Negosyo galleries (in the words of "bungo": Walang personalan, trabaho lang..)
2. Kulangot sa pinaka-loob ng ilong galleries (Di na ma-reach)
3. Steady lang, no bullshitan, no membership requirements, all cards accepted

Of course the third is the coolest type of gallery to visit..

Anyway and by the way, you saw those jejemonesque kids taking pictures of the works on display? A lot of them are the future. Their life experiences and their stories will be told in a totally different and creative way and they will win awards and recognition. When you as a curator ignore the curiosity and inquisitiveness of our youth, to attend to a wine swirling "investor", you have done the world a disservice.

Congratulations to Yo Garcia and Pablo for having the awesomest booth and being friendly. Gusto ko sana mag-hi kay M.O. but he was in a hurry.

Overcast with slight showers

Dex Fernandez @ Pablo

I love this little guy

I like this. I also like the one with hermit crabs. Jason Montinola.

The photo uploaded funny.. Super realism.. do those guns even exist? If they didn't, does that mean it's hypersurrealism?? Shet.

It's not the knives but the spongy texture of the dude's flesh that gets me. Louie Cordero

The insides of these dickfaced kids had a weird biomechanical rainbow brite feel to them. Leeroy New

If anyone thinks this is easy, they should take a closer look at the detail and the discipline that goes into this. Dex

Nice painting.. Nice frame too. Where do you get those? I mean the shapes.. the color is easy.

Creepy baby

Very mature style.. Amazing! Orley Ypon

Nice work, but why obstruct with that bronze sculpture?

I hope you know who Jeff Koons is...

skillful.. and I like the Yano reference

Cool Rodel Tapaya painting.. with 3D effects:)

Sorry about the bad upload.. But i love this painting. It reminds me of the Goya painting with the god eating something.. i mean someone. His son, if i recall right.. Anyway.. Galing! Jason Moss

Saw this at Silverlens being packed for Manilart.. Nice painting. Leslie deChavez

I like this too.. more than her self portraits. Janet Balbarona

Coolest thing about this: In front of the actual painting, you can hardly see the ghostly face.

There are paintings that leave you breathless and hurting, from the raw beauty and skill and despair in them. This, and the "Doomed Family" in the National Museum top my list in that category.

Here's one of my favorites from the fair! Jason Moss

That's all faux.
